If you are a bit unsure on whether silver or gold jewellery is better suited to you, keep reading! This post will share some tips on how to choose the perfect piece of jewellery for you.

Choosing the right metal for you skin tone…

When choosing your jewellery, one thing to remember is that it tends rest against your skin making it an important factor as the contrast from the jewellery to your skin can change how the pieces look within your skin tone. These will fall into the categories: neutral, warm, and cool.

Neutral skin tones…

With a mix of cool and warm undertones, a neutral skin tone means you can wear both silver and gold!! Have the best of both worlds by mixing and matching your metals for a unique look or switching your jewellery collections up for each occasion.

Warm skin tones…

If you have fair or medium skin with yellow undertones, or dark or deep skin with peachy golden undertones, you have a warm skin tone and yellow gold, rose gold and copper or brass pieces of jewellery are your go too. These metals allow your skin tone to have a natural glow, in particular with gold jewellery as it will make your skin tone stand out and compliment it best.

Cool skin tone…

Fair skin on the other hand with undertones or pink or blue, your skin is cool toned. In this case white metals such as white gold, platinum and most definitely silver is your perfect match. With this skin tone silver suits best and can be paired with gemstones such as rose quartz, amethyst, blue topaz, and cubic zirconia for an elevated look.

How to determine your skin tone…

If you’re unsure what skin tone you have one of the best tips would be the vein test, shine a light over the veins in your wrist and look at the colours. If they look blue/purple, you have a cool undertone or if they appear yellow/green, your skin has warm tones. On the other hand, if you can’t see any visible veins, your skin is more neutral.

Another affective test would be your natural hair colour, this can help you to figure out your jewellery skin tone. If you have blonde or light brown hair you tend to have a cool skin undertone, while those with dark brown, caramel tones and black hair tend to have warm skin tones. If you have red hair its possible you could have neutral skin tones or either of the above so this test might not be the most effective one for you!
